AT-X 280 AF pro - sharpness issue

While I realize this is a fairly dead forum I thought to ask anyway.

My copy is softer than I want and was considering sending it in for a repair. What kind of luck has anyone had with getting a sharper focus out of lens ? I use it indoors so really need at least 3.5 (would be nice to get sharp at the 2.8 it is listed at).

I sent this lens into THK USA (Fantastic customer service, quick response). They returned it at no charge saying it was working within specs for a FILM camera and that digital was more demanding on a lens. When it came back I compared it with the 18-135 kit lens with a quick shot at 50mm f5.6 and the Tokina lost in sharpness.

I am afraid this lens will be going to ebay as I cannot accept the lack of sharpness it provides.

Just wanted to update what I found out from Tokina repair.
